Autumn Allen spent many years as an educator in non-traditional settings with children of all ages before she discovered she could study children’s literature in graduate school. After earning degrees in children’s literature and writing for children from Simmons University, she was awarded the Associates of the Boston Public Library Writer-in-Residence fellowship, where she worked on her young adult novel, ALL YOU HAVE TO DO, which debuts in 2023 with Kokila/Penguin Young Readers. Her picture books, STEP ON BOARD: SCULPTING A MEMORIAL TO HARRIET TUBMAN and ANSWERED PRAYERS, are forthcoming from Knopf Books for Young Readers. Autumn is a senior editor at Barefoot Books, and a lecturer in children’s literature at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, where, once upon a time, she studied cultural psychology. Autumn grew up in Boston and lives in Massachusetts with her family.
