David Alan Richards

David Alan Richards is a real estate lawyer in New York City, his vocation, where he worked on many well-known projects, including Trump Tower, the new World Trade Center, and the High Line, now New York City’s most popular tourist attraction. He has served as chair of the Real Property Section of the 35,000-member American Bar Association, and the 100-member Anglo-American Real Property Institute, and authored numerous articles on real estate topics in various legal periodicals. His avocation is writing narrative history and literary history, reflecting his degrees in American and European history from Yale and the University of Cambridge, respectively. His bibliography of Rudyard Kipling, RUDYARD KIPLING: A BIBLIOGRAPHY, published by the British Library and Oak Knoll Press, is now the standard used by booksellers and international auction houses for Kipling first editions, and his catalogue of the 2007 exhibition of his Kipling collection, RUDYARD KIPLING: THE BOOKS I LEAVE BEHIND, was published by the Yale University Press. His 2017 book, SKULLS AND KEYS: THE HIDDEN HISTORY OF YALE’S SECRET SOCIETIES, tells of their creation and fame from the early 19th century through the end of the 20th. His next book, in progress, will be a history of the Yale University Library from its inception in 1701 through the present.
