Marta McDowell teaches landscape history and gardening at the New York Botanical Garden, where she was Instructor of the Year in 2010. She has always been interested in the relationship between the pen and the trowel. EMILY DICKINSON’S GARDENS was her first book (McGraw-Hill, 2005); Timber Press published her book on Beatrix Potter’s gardening interests in 2013. Her husband, Kirke Bent, summarizes her biography as, “I am therefore I dig.”
